Grief is not a foreign emotion to us all. It is one we have all felt at some point in our lives and still will for as long as life exists. But how many of us can handle it well without crumbling under the weight of it all? Losing a loved one is never easy, especially when you are by their side, watching them painfully fight to hold on.
When our loved ones do pass on, we become lost and turn to alcohol or drugs sometimes, in a bid to drown the painful memories of their exit. And when alcohol doesn’t work, we contemplate either merely existing or taking our own lives.
In today’s category of Talent Feature, we showcase this amazing piece that explores grief. I hope we can try to be there for someone in their times of despair to remind them that the world still needs them.
My glass is half empty
And so are our memories.
At least for today,
They will be back by tomorrow
Only with more emptiness,
More guilt and pain.
But we counted five already;
And I thought you had won.
Five years and three months
You fought and then you stopped.
Please do forgive me,
I promised to watch them grow
But he said my liver was failing.
It was life that failed me first.
