What does it really mean to be happy? Now, I’m not referring to the transient wave that occasionally sweeps through you when you’re having a good time but in the real sense of the word “happy”. The kind that isn’t dependent on circumstances or events.
Who wants to be happy? To be really happy? Everyone, that’s who! I mean, who wouldn’t want to live a life of pure, genuine happiness?
I guess happiness is not sustained for some of us because a lot of the time, we measure our happiness by the fulfilment of our desires or the possessions we have, which may not always be on the high side. So we attach a value to our happiness that entirely depends on certain things working out for us.
Isn’t it high time we realize that happiness is a choice, one that can be made when we decide within our hearts to stay positive despite challenges faced? Isn’t it high time we stopped allowing things to steal our joy?
I think being happy is that feeling of truly making the most of life. It is about experiencing all of life’s processes with positivity and a good spirit.
It would be unrealistic to assume the bad days won’t come because they definitely will. It is acknowledging the positive aspects you have going for yourself and deciding to make smoothies when life hands you sour grapes. It is about turning those negative experiences into lessons learned.
If we are honest with ourselves, we will realize that our happy tanks deplete when we get sucked into the endless pit of “what-ifs”. And the what-ifs never end until they weigh down on us heavily with their might.
What if I lose my job?
What if I never find love?
What if…?
Sadly, a life built on an endless cycle of what-ifs can never be truly lived. What if we take each day as it comes and count the blessings they individually bring?
I think happiness is tied to contentment. If we could appreciate the things we have going for us, a lot of us will realize that there is so much to be thankful for. If we could take our eyes off a closed door and notice the windows still left open, we would understand better.
Sometimes, I try to imagine a world without happiness and I come up blank because life’s very essence will be sucked out.
Let’s agree today to bask in the euphoria of being alive. The pursuit of happiness is a journey that can only be determined by you. So, smile, giggle, and laugh. These memories will make you understand that there is more to life, even when things are not going your way.
