Does it ever get better?

I bet we have asked ourselves this question a couple of times or been on the receiving end of it. And we are quick to reply with a sullen thank you when people tell us it will get better despite the doubts that plague usWhile I truly do not know the answer to this, I believe that life comes with tough times that will test your will. A time, when it feels like the world is against you and nothing seems to make you happy. Times you are bound to forget to smile from the weight of the depression and the problems that never end. However, life also comes with happy times that will leave you rolling in uncontrollable glee.

Personally, life has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride; sometimes I’m up, sometimes I’m kissing the hard ground and sometimes, I’m still and stagnant. Throughout this ride, even with the occasional bouts of sadness that cloud my vision with the belief that I am infinitely stuck, I realize that I am never in the same place permanently. Most people often advise that you forget about the bad times you have had but I don’t believe you should. Remember and draw hope from it for yourself and those around you. One day, it will be proof to someone that it is possible to make it through since you did.

When the bad times come with their might, take a deep breath and take a trip down memory lane. Remember the challenges that weighed you down in the past and compare it with your current situation. If you are honest with yourself, you’d realize some of these challenges have been solved with time or in strange ways you never thought of. If you think about it, hope still came through and gave you a light that was your guide. If you don’t want to call it hope, call it plain luck, grace, faith, or whatever but things did change for the better in those times. This should communicate to you that the tough times won’t last forever.

Maybe I write this more for myself to always remember that even in the dark, three realities will always be. First, there is always someone who genuinely cares and wants to be there for us; they are often closer than we think and we only need to ask. Secondly, there is always beauty in the world even with the negativity. This is why a child could be born at the same time a man is being laid six feet down. We only have to open our eyes and truly see that beauty. Finally, pain is only temporal and never permanent.

I am still a work in progress and the doubts still come. When they do, I strongly hold on to the three realities with the belief that no matter how much it hurts badly right now, it is not going to last forever.

Love,

Diane.
