Stronger than you seem

Mario Fernandez has an amazing quote that says, “Rise above the storm and you will find the sunshine.”

However, what do you do when it seems like the sunshine is taking forever to come and you’re drowning in the storm faster than you can blink?

What happens when the storm leaves you trapped in a dark tunnel that is closed off from both ends?

These were some of the questions my mind could not help but ask as I meditated on the above quote. Storms of life come in different dimensions and they provoke certain emotions we are powerless to control.

There will be moments when sleeping will be preferred to being awake. Times when the darkness will hold more appeal than the light. And when these times rear their head, they hit you so hard and so fast that they leave you reeling, with barely the strength to deal with them.

There will be times when you will question your self-worth and wonder what people see in you. Times when nothing seems to excite you and you will feel like an alien inside your skin; trapped and confused while the world keeps passing by.

But no one understands the battles you face, because the smile plastered on your face is doing the very job it was meant for – masking it all up and creating a facade that forces you to bear it all alone.

One thing you should understand is that it is okay to have these emotions because they are part of what makes you human.

Maybe I am weirdly wired, but I think we need to face these moments to be able to understand the inner strength we have. So, rather than run away from these feelings, soak it all up, take a deep breath and understand that it will eventually pass.

If today isn’t a good day, then tomorrow will be. And if tomorrow isn’t, then we will keep trying and putting one small foot after another with the knowledge that one day, the good day(s) will eventually come.

And we will be ready for the trill because we are all deserving of everything good in life.

This is just a very short post to encourage everyone who is going through a difficult time or challenges in whatever form they come. Understand that you are stronger than you know and the badges from the past battles you’ve won should strengthen you to believe that you can win this too.

“There is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think, ” says Dan Savage.

When the sunshine takes a bit too much time to come, those are words you should repeat and imbibe, until they sink in. Because at the end of the day, you truly are.
