December 12, 2021/

It recently dawned on me that we are fast hurtling towards the end of 2021. Hmm, normally I would be hyped up, talking future plans and reminiscing past achievements so far. But let’s face it, this year has been a lot. Personally, it has been a rollercoaster ride from top...

No parent deserves this kind of pain; the agony of burying a child who died a senseless death. Nothing we can say or do will change anything for Sylvester. But maybe it can do something for the next innocent bullied boy or girl and cut all channels that enable this...

We may want something so bad, work hard and pray ourselves to sleep on some nights, but then it doesn’t come to be. After repeated disappointments, the easiest option seems like giving up. Your feelings are valid. I mean, the world would understand why you had to if they knew...

Maybe all we need is reassurance; a burst of positive warmth that tells us we are not alone. Or maybe we need someone to stretch out a hand and lift us out of whatever mood negativity has us wrapped so tightly. Today, I will be that someone.

And sometimes, despite my best efforts, I wish I could go back to being that 19-year-old graduate with much twinkle in her eyes; the one who didn’t feel like the weight of the world was on her shoulders. Maybe then, she would probably have been more intentional about her friendships,...

I puffed on the stick of weed and watched as the smoke rose before it was swept away by the fan's currents. I knew the gusts of air did little to hide the smell from drifting downstairs to the living room where my father sat, half dozing as he watched...

I understand now, once again, that some days will be bad. Heck, they will drain you of everything that gives you strength and try to force you into an unending cycle of self-pity and unhappiness. But some days also will be good. You will meet people that will constantly check...

May 16, 2021/

Recently, social media has been agog with the hashtag #At23 and I have read through tons of posts and comments surrounding this trend. Under this hashtag, trust me, the good, the bad, and the ugly are quite clear to anybody looking. And lest I forget, lies have been thrown in...

I simply lacked some physical features that he wanted in a woman. My small behind, nonexistent hips, and slim thighs were his complaints. And he never let me forget that each time I visited. The open comparisons he made between me and other girls that seemingly had those features were...

About Me

Hello! I'm Diane

I am someone who has always turned to writing to make sense of things. Especially the parts of life that feel confusing, heavy or quietly complicated.

I write about mental health, relationships, identity, faith, and the in-between seasons we often move through without much language. Most of what you will find here comes from lived experience, observation, and a habit of sitting with thoughts a little longer than most people do.

I do not write because I have the answers. I write because it helps me understand myself, other people and the world around me. Writing gives me the space to slow down and to say things honestly, without needing to tidy them up. Some of what I write is still in the process of becoming, and I am comfortable letting it be that way.

Thoughts on Ink is where those reflections live. If you are drawn to writing that feels thoughtful, unhurried and real, I am glad you are here.
