It recently dawned on me that we are fast hurtling towards the end of 2021. Hmm, normally I would be hyped up, talking future plans and reminiscing past achievements so far.
But let’s face it, this year has been a lot. Personally, it has been a rollercoaster ride from top to bottom in many areas of my life.
So, this year, I will be taking a different route. One of complete and emphatic gratitude.
It is easy to get sucked into the abyss of depression in the light of current situations. And it doesn’t even feel like there’s a bright, shining light on the horizon – things keep getting worse on a daily basis.
It sure feels like behind every smile is a world of inexplicable pain; a world of uncertainty for what the future holds. And this can be downright scary.
Everyone is dealing with their version of pain and I think gratitude will go a long way in the spirit of Christmas. I choose to look around and be thankful for my present situation. Because, previously, it was a future I prayed would come to pass.

I choose to appreciate my family for their unending love. I would definitely choose you a thousand times over. There’s no way I would have made this far without your support and it means the world to me.
I choose to be grateful to my close friends and all who have been in my corner, cheering me on. Especially on days when the rays of sunlight struggled to pierce through the heavy shadows that sought to engulf me.
Finally, and most importantly, I am grateful to God for the gift of life. Every breath I take is a blessing because not many are alive to read this message. And I pray that His will is done in my life.
Maybe you can take this route with me as we count down to 2022. Smile more. Appreciate the present. Celebrate today. Take calm but deep breaths and understand that it will not always be this bleak. The sun will shine soon.
Take a little optimism into the New Year. Because at the end of the day, you are reading this because you are still alive.
And when there is life, there will always be a way.
